Lateral Connection Seals (Top Hats)

Lateral connection seals ensure lateral-to-main line connection integrity

Lateral-to-main connection seals are shaped to fit within the lateral and wrap around the main pipe, providing a durable 360° connection.

Lateral connection sealing completely restores damaged lateral-to-main connections

Lateral connections are the smaller pipes that connect individual properties to the larger sewer or pipeline system. When rehabilitating the main pipeline, it is important to ensure that lateral connections are also sealed properly to prevent any infiltration or exfiltration of water, which can lead to a host of problems, including groundwater contamination, sewer backups, leaks and pipe failures.

National Underground Group’s trenchless rehabilitation technologies provide wastewater infrastructure owners safe, efficient and cost-effective repair services that restore damaged or degraded lateral-to-main sewer line connections to full integrity without the disruptions and potential risks associated with traditional excavation methods.

Advanced sealing technology ensures efficient rehabilitation and connection integrity

National Underground Group’s lateral connection seal system for main to lateral connections can repair pipes of any material, ranging in diameters from 6 inches to 36 inches. It is an excellent solution for pipes that have suffered cracks, root intrusion, separated joints, infiltration/exfiltration, corrosion, mis-cut lateral connections and other problems.

The seal between the main pipeline and a lateral connection is formed by inserting a flexible, resin-based liner into the lateral pipe, which is cured in place after seven minutes of exposure to special UV light. The liner conforms to fit within a lateral service connection and wraps around the main sewer line, sealing the connection (including a 360-degree wrap). Epoxy is also used to provide an adhesive, watertight seal. The resulting seal exceeds the industry mandated standard for felt CIPP liners and provides added structural stability to the lateral connection that helps guard against future leaks and pipe collapses.

Our lateral connection seal is an effective and efficient way to rehabilitate damaged or compromised lateral-to-main connections, reducing the need for costly and disruptive excavation and replacement of pipes.

Lateral connection seal repair advantages:

  • Resin-based liner only reacts to UV light, cures in seven minutes
  • Usually capable of being installed in live flow conditions
  • Connection structural strength is increased
  • Liner profile allows future rehabilitation of connecting pipe segments
  • Applicable for connection repairs on pipes of any material
  • Suitable for 6- to 36-inch diameter pipe
